Usaid has had a
short and not-so-illustrious career competing in CFA cat shows. As a rare
breed, we thought he might be popular with the judges. Unfortunately as with
most things in life, cat breeds can be "trendy" with certain breeds being more
popular than others at any given time. This said, we still thought that he
might win something as he not only has champion and grand champion
parents, his grandparents were champions and grand champions as
well.
Usaid was nervous
at his first cat show, grumpy at his
second, and surly at his third. After he
hissed viciously at a judge, we decided to withdraw him from the third show.
After taking him back home where he proceeded to act as happy as ever, we have
reluctantly decided to retire him from cat shows. A disappointment to his
owners - yes, but it is more important that he is a happy and well-adjusted
cat.
If we ever get
another pedigreed cat, we may try showing him or her. But I believe we will
start showing another cat as a kitten to get him or her used to the whole cat
show environment.
