History Legend has it that the Chartreux got its name
from the Carthusian monks of France (the same ones famous for their Chartreuse
liquor). This is probably not the true origin of their name, but it is a pretty
romantic tale. The 16th century saw the first stories of the stocky blue cat.
Natural colonies of Chartreux could be found in various regions of France and
it was prized for its fur, meat and for its natural ability as a
mouser.
Naming Chartreux are named by the French naming
system meaning that the first letter of the cat's name is determined by its
year of birth. This system follows a 20-year cycle with the letters K, Q, W, X,
Y, and Z omitted. 2003, the year Usaid was born was a "U" year.
